Captain Avinash Batra

Capt Avinash Batra is one of the founder members of Seahorse Group of companies, Mumbai, which was established in 1980 and is one of the premier shipping and allied services company in India. He is the Director/Shareholder/Chairman of the Group Companies involved in Ship Agency, Container Leasing, Container Repairs & Storage Depots and Cargo logistics.

After successfully completing pre-sea training from T. S. Dufferin,
Capt. Avinash Batra served on various ships from 1962 to 1979, owned by M/s. Scindia Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. & Wallem Ship management,
Hong Kong. He obtained the ‘Master’s Certificate of Proficiency and Competence’ in the year 1969 and took Command of a Ship in 1974. He, thereafter pursued full time studies to undertake ‘Post Graduate Studies in Shipping Management’ from Plymouth Polytechnic, UK in 1976-77 and also obtained Certificate of “Management of Offshore Operations”.

Capt. Avinash Batra, is a member of Managing Committee of Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) and is Chairman Indo-Spanish bi-lateral trade committee of BCCI. He has been elected as President of ‘The Council of EU Chambers of Commerce in India’ in Dec-2013. Besides, till recently he was a Trustee on the Board of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust. He is also a Past Chairman, Shipping & Transport sub-committee of BCCI and Past President of Indo-Sri-Lanka Society. He has also been closely associated with various trade bodies, committees and consultancy groups for the past many years. He is one of the most knowledgeable and respected professionals in the industry. He has made significant contribution in continual enhancement and up gradation of Indian Maritime sector in an evolving scenario of containerized Maritime transportation and Indian Export Import trade. He was conferred the Honorary Fellowship by Narottam Morarjee Institute of Shipping, Mumbai in Feb-2014.
